what does UEFA think of the BeNeLiga and what are the advantages/disadvantages in the European area?
The question of whether UEFA approves the new competition format has not yet been definitively answered. Currently, the countries jointly have 10 European tickets to distribute, and it is hoped that the BeNeLiga will eventually receive 10 tickets.
European tickets will be distributed per country until 2024 as follows:
- Number 1: 1 ticket for the group stage of the Champions League
- Number 2: 1 ticket for the qualifying round of the Champions League (2nd round for the Netherlands and 3rd round for Belgium)
- Number 3: 1 ticket to the 3rd qualifying round of the Europa Conference League
- Number 4: 1 ticket to the 2nd qualifying round of the Europa Conference League
- Cup winner: 1 ticket to the Europa League play-offs
As a result, as many clubs will flow to the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League. Both Belgium and the Netherlands will be allowed to send 5 teams to the (preliminary rounds of the) European tournaments in the new setup and competition format of the BeNeLiga.
However, UEFA president Ceferin indicated that he does not want to give as many as 10 tickets to one competition. He is also not in favor of the idea of treating each country separately (5 tickets per country), while it is a joint competition.
The latest developments regarding the number of European tickets for the BeNeLiga do not seem very positive. In the meantime, people no longer assume 10 tickets, but only 7. This means that clubs from the sub-top will have a harder time playing European football.
What do you think the uefa should do with european tickets if the BeNeliga league continues?
